OMG – HAVE YOU HEARD OF THE OCM? – ONE OF THE BEST BEAUTY TIPS

it’s all about finding the right blend

I’ve been making my own face scrub for many years as part of my self care program (and to slow down any signs of aging!). I use a recipe made from ground up almonds, oat flour, medicinal clay and lavender oil. It’s wonderful but needs to be refrigerated or it goes off quickly. Smells a bit like pot truth be told. Also, I often find myself already under the shower when I realize the scrub is in the kitchen. So while it’s been working for me for the most part, I’m ready to explore new facial cleansing options. I found a delicious smelling face powder made with rose hips and geranium oil from Block Island when I was in the Northeast this summer. You just add water. It smells sooooo good but is messy and I feel like most of it ends up down the drain instead of on my face. My quest for the ultimate face wash that smells great, is easy to apply, removes makeup and doesn’t need to be refrigerated has ended. Enter the Oil Cleansing Method (OCM). I learned about the OCM from one of my favorite health and beauty experts Amanda Cook on her blog Vintage Amanda. In July I wrote about the powers of applying oil to oily or troubled skin in my post Cape Cod, Clean Food & Clear Skin.  The OCM is the same idea. Using high quality, organic oils on your skin sends a message that you have sufficient oil and do not need to produce more. Oily skinned people, heed this beauty tip!

By switching up the formulas, oily and dry skin can also benefit from the OCM. Here are the correct formulas for the various skin types I found on Crunchy Betty, another health and beauty site: For normal skin, use equal portions of caster oil and carrier oil(s) as in the recipe from Vintage Amanda. For oily skin, use 2/3 castor oil to 1/3 carrier oil(s) and for dry skin, use 1/3 castor oil and 2/3 carrier oil(s).

Not sure what your skin type is?

Click here for a fantastic article Understanding Your Skin Type from Health Style Hub writer and health & beauty enthusiast James Allen. Health Style Hub is a great source for health and beauty tips. The article includes an easy quiz to determine your skin type in minutes. It turns out I have combination skin! Once you know what type of skin you have (and this can change over time so it’s a good idea to take the quiz even if you think you know your skin type), you can better understand all characteristics, causes and how to care for your skin.

success!

Voila!I just made my second batch of the oil cleansing method balm and let me tell you, it was a major success! This gorgeous goo is creamy, smells fantastic, deep cleans the skin, removes makeup effectively and doesn’t need to be refrigerated. Cleansing has been catapulted to another level –  the ultimate at-home spa experience.

I recycle/reuse everything. The yellow container is an empty Bach’s Rescue Remedy Pastilles tin and the travel sized jars once contained French jam. Another reason to visit the French bakery on cheat day.

If you make this recipe, let me know how it goes. Forget the 6 Ps (prior preparation prevents piss poor performance) on this one. Just have fun.
